As humans, we are guests on this beautiful planet called Earth, and as guests we need to learn to respect and cherish the hospitality that the Earth provides us. On a smaller scale, most of us who live on the continent we know as Australia are the guests of the original inhabitants, who have been the caretakers of this land for at least 65,000 years. As guests we need to learn to respect and cherish the hospitality they provide us. We, the members of Gosti, have also been guests of the various cultures whose music has inspired and motivated us. The musicians that we have been fortunate to study with have been generous in the extreme, and it has been a privilege and a great joy to learn from them. Their music has inspired each of us in many ways. It has been the garden in which we plant our music and it inspires and nurtures our musical growth. All the pieces presented on this album are original compositions. Our music reflects who we are, and is one small way in which we can express our thanks to the cultures that have given us so much, to the land that gives us so much, and to the planet that gives us so much. Between us we bring a diverse range of sounds, styles, and emotional content to our music, which develops and extends each of the compositions. We believe that the real strength of Gosti lies with the journeys on which these pieces take the listener, by way of our improvisations and the musical familiarity we have with each other, after playing together in different configurations for many decades. It is our wish that our music will take you on a sonic voyage where music becomes the ultimate storyteller, transporting you to a world where boundaries fade and music reigns supreme.
